BSME Website Blog

The BSME’s year continues apace. Our event at Searcy’s 40|30, The “Gherkin” was as remarkable for its darkness as it was for its networking. Family commitments kept me away but I understand that lighting arranged to make the most of the spectacular view meant things were rather dusky in the room. Editors report an almost conspiratorial, some said James Bond-esque, atmosphere at the event as a result, and why not? Another editor mentioned that the stairs were a killer in heels – will need to watch that one in the future.
The Committee has been hard at work over the last few weeks planning out the rest of the year’s events. More details will follow but we’re hoping to deliver some very big name speakers, exclusive high-profile meet-and-greets and some networking events both useful and fun. We’re even looking at an event based around the new presentation craze of Pecha Kucha. For those of you who don’t know what it is (and I certainly didn’t until Amanda Baillieu introduced us to it) have a look here: www.pecha-kucha.org. Have a nose round the site and then let me know if you’d be interested in attending or taking part. You can email me on this (work) address: feedback@nme.com.
I’m also working on a Beginner’s Guide to Twitter from a magazine editor’s perspective based on my experiences so far. Uploading here soon.
In the meantime, my continued thanks to Gill and the Committee for making such a commitment to the BSME in what is - for all of us - a very challenging year
