“WHAT’S ON YOUR IPAD? FORECASTING THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL CONTENT”,
Featuring debate and opinion from some of our industry’s most respected personalities, “What’s on your iPad? Forecasting the future of digital content” was a provocative discussion of the editorial and design issues we’re all facing.
The all-star panel of speakers included:
Kate Creasey – Editor, cosmopolitan.co.uk and member of the CoolBrands Council
Jon Hill – Design Editor, The Times
William Owen – Founder/Executive Director, Made By Many and author of the designer’s bible, Modern Magazine Design
David Rowan – Editor, Wired (2009 BSME Launch of the Year) Kate Creasey * Know how your audience is accessing info * Think beyond advertising – what other revenue streams are there for your brand? * Be clear on what you want your formats to achieve… * Be agile! William Owen * Think magazine as service, not magazine as product * Cross-media collaboration: you can't do it all yourself and the audience is your best collaborator * Innovation around a brand * Go hyperniche * Launch and Learn Jon Hill * Be brave. Get involved, the technology isn't as scary as you might first think, and to be frank, if you don't someone else will do your bidding for you. * Edit. Tell stories, whatever the medium your audience will always be attracted to good content. But don't think because space is unlimited online you don't need to edit. On the contrary, be discerning! * Values. Stick to them, your publication has worked hard to earn its reputation in print, don't throw those values out of the window when it comes to digital platforms * Skills. Use them, they're still relevant regardless of the medium. If you're a designer your knowledge of typography, colour, picture editing and layout still apply to digital. * Have fun David Rowan
