BSME Social Media Manager (2025)
Job Description
The Social Media Manager is responsible for the day-to-day publishing and community management across all social platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Bluesky) by following the social strategy led by the Head of Social. The SMM uses their creativity and organisation skills to create and autonomously post engaging content that aligns with the society’s core values of excellence and innovation. Whenever possible, the SMM attends the society’s events and award ceremonies in order to create content with the main objectives of driving awareness of the BSME, growing followers, increasing engagement on platforms and establishing social channels as the first place to discover BSME news.
The role pays £160 per week, based on one day of work (8 hours). While typically one day a week, some weeks may require additional posting if there’s big news or urgent content to share (e.g. posting breaking news or promoting a major new cover release). This fee includes event coverage, which typically occurs approximately once a month. Events may not always fall on your regular working day, and you’ll be expected to post social content the day after the event.
This flexibility is factored into the weekly payment and your time for event attendance or follow-up posting.
Key responsibilities:
Generate content ideas (new franchises, quotes, curating weekly Covers We Love, fun reel ideas, engagement on stories, etc.)
Lead event campaigns from announcement and promotion to live coverage and follow up content, including sponsor posts
Create fun and on-brand designs using Canva
Craft engaging and informative copy to accompany posts
Post frequently and appropriately across all platforms by scheduling content in advance
Film and edit video (Reels and TikToks) using in platform tools, Canva and CapCut
Be aware of cultural moments and trends, key editorial dates, relevant news topics, job opportunities and events that can inform engaging content
Regular community management, monitoring engagement and responding to direct messages, comments, tags, etc.
Attend events and produce live social media content while engaging with attendees posting on their personal social media
Maintain a unified brand voice across different social media channels
Work with the Head of Communications to create a monthly BSME newsletter
Contribute to the society’s reach by targeting new audiences
Work closely with the committee to make sure ideas are aligned with the overall strategy, following the BSME tone of voice and style
Key skills:
Creativity and a passion for the journalism industry
Organisation and brilliant time management
Interest and experience in graphic design and video editing
Attention to detail and social-first perspective when shooting content
Excellent copywriting and copy-editing skills
Experience of creating social media content for a brand
Experience of reporting on performance insights with context and recommendations
Proficient in Canva and Airtable, as well as priority social media platform tools and features
