BSME CHAIR 2023

The British Society of Magazine Editors names GLAMOUR's Deborah Joseph as 2023 chair

The British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) has announced the appointment of Deborah Joseph, European editorial director, GLAMOUR, as its 2023 chair, succeeding Tim Pollard, group digital editorial director at Bauer Media.

Deborah Joseph will be supported by vice-chairs Jaimie Kaffash, editor of Pulse, Gideon Spanier, UK editor-in-chief of Campaign and Andrea Thompson, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire. Together they lead the committee of 15 leading British digital and print magazine editors, editorial directors and art directors who run the society and plan each year’s events.

Deborah Joseph said: “It’s a huge honour to be chairing the BSME, a body that has represented and supported the magazine industry for 42 years. We all know the industry is evolving at breakneck speed, now blending new and traditional media. With these changes come exciting opportunities, as we look to tell authentic stories, across multiple mediums, and ensure ongoing investment in respected journalism.

“The BSME is also evolving to reflect these changes. I’m honored to work alongside inimitable print and digital leaders on the committee, to help support, represent and award editors, art directors and their teams, with a big focus on change and transformation.

“This year the BSME will be offering a wealth of digital training and upskilling opportunities, as well as thought-provoking and exciting events, aimed at uniting and inspiring multi-functional magazine teams. I’m very much looking forward to attracting new members from the magazine, digital and social world, who will benefit from our creative community.

“I’m thrilled to be taking over the reins from Tim Pollard, group digital editorial director at Bauer Media. I would like to thank him for running the society so dynamically over the past year.”

The BSME’s strapline is “Digital. Print. Excellence”. The society acts as a forum for editors to meet, exchange ideas and educate, via industry events, awards and social gatherings. We run an events programme throughout the year, including two highly respected sets of awards: the BSME Talent Awards in the summer and the main BSME Awards, for editors and art directors, in the autumn.
