The Big BSME Mixer: A night to remember

The first BSME social event of 2026 brought together editors, creatives and industry figures for an evening at the gorgeous Bob Bob Ricard City — and what an evening it was. The room buzzed, the canapés kept coming and the fizz flowed.

For new BSME chair Dan Green, it was the perfect opportunity to meet members and share his vision for the year ahead — three priorities that he hopes will shape what the Society does in 2026 and beyond.

First, he wants the BSME to be a place where editors don't just react to change, but stay ahead of it. AI is already reshaping the industry, and Dan is keen for the Society to help members futureproof their careers through a focus on practical editorial and design skills.

Second, championing emerging talent. As editor of a children's magazine, it’s a cause that matters deeply to him — and the inaugural BSME Young Writers' Prize with Caitlin Moran is a brilliant early step: a real route into publishing for the next generation of journalists.

But above all, what the evening reminded everyone was that the BSME is, at its heart, about community. People who care deeply about great storytelling and trusted journalism, coming together to share, connect and shape what comes next.

New friends were made, old ones reunited — and the profiteroles, by all accounts, were outstanding.
